On inferring presence of an individual in a mixture: a Bayesian approach
نویسنده
چکیده
Homer and others (2008. Resolving individuals contributing trace amounts of DNA to highly complex mixtures using high-density SNP genotyping microarrays. PLoS Genetics 4, e1000167) recently showed that, given allele frequency data for a large number of single nucleotide polymorphisms in a sample together with corresponding population "reference" frequencies, by typing an individual's DNA sample at the same set of loci it can be inferred whether or not the individual was a member of the sample. This observation has been responsible for precautionary removal of large amounts of summary data from public access. This and further work on the problem has followed a frequentist approach. This paper sets out a Bayesian analysis of this problem which clarifies the role of the reference frequencies and allows incorporation of prior probabilities of the individual's membership in the sample.

Bayesian approach to inference of population structure
Methods of inferring the population structure, its applications in identifying disease models as well as foresighting the physical and mental situation of human beings have been finding ever-increasing importance. In this article, first, motivation and significance of studying the problem of population structure is explained. In the next section, the applications of inference of p...
متن کاملThe Family of Scale-Mixture of Skew-Normal Distributions and Its Application in Bayesian Nonlinear Regression Models
In previous studies on fitting non-linear regression models with the symmetric structure the normality is usually assumed in the analysis of data. This choice may be inappropriate when the distribution of residual terms is asymmetric. Recently, the family of scale-mixture of skew-normal distributions is the main concern of many researchers. This family includes several skewed and heavy-tailed d...
متن کاملA One-Stage Two-Machine Replacement Strategy Based on the Bayesian Inference Method
In this research, we consider an application of the Bayesian Inferences in machine replacement problem. The application is concerned with the time to replace two machines producing a specific product; each machine doing a special operation on the product when there are manufacturing defects because of failures. A common practice for this kind of problem is to fit a single distribution to the co...
متن کاملasset pricing anomalies at the firm level
Anomaly is deviation from common rules and in finance it can be defined as a pattern in the average of stock return that is not consistent with the prevailing asset pricing models literature. For anomaly investigation two common methods are used: portfolio approach and individual firm approach. This paper wants to shed light on anomalies of capital asset pricing model at the individual firm lev...
متن کاملPredictive Profiles for Transaction Data using Finite Mixture Models
Massive transaction data sets are routinely recorded in a variety of applications including telecommunications, retail commerce, and Web site management. In this paper we address the problem of inferring models from such transaction data in the form of predictive profiles of individual behavior. We describe a generative mixture model that accounts for population heterogeneity in transaction gen...
متن کاملBayesian Sample size Determination for Longitudinal Studies with Continuous Response using Marginal Models
Introduction Longitudinal study designs are common in a lot of scientific researches, especially in medical, social and economic sciences. The reason is that longitudinal studies allow researchers to measure changes of each individual over time and often have higher statistical power than cross-sectional studies. Choosing an appropriate sample size is a crucial step in a successful study. A st...
